Willingham

Brief

After the passing of her husband, our client felt that she didn't have the greenfingers that her late husband had. We were briefed to arrive at a design that had a large lawn area for the grandchildren. Our client also wanted the garden to allow relaxation and to enjoy some of the couples favourite plants and flowers but also have year-round interest. A clever planting scheme along with a secluded spot for quiet reflection and maybe even a gin and tonic.

Implementation

The project began with a completely blank canvas. that meant levelling the garden and removing almost everything. The trees had overgrown a little which was soon rectified by some pollarding and removal of some of the overbearing specimens in the area. Once cleared the space was adorned by creating a rustic Italian slate terrace with an accompanying pathway. Introducing borders that were heavily fortified with organic fertilizer served a dual purpose to reinvigorate the soil and frame the pathway beautifully. The existing vegetable plot proved a wonderful bed for the myriad of bright plants, picked for their vibrant colour and variance in flowering times. To maintain interest levels throughout the year a raft of contrasting foliage areas with seasonal colour was created. Finally, sectors were fashioned using grass paths leading to a smaller slate terrace and lawned area - perfect for relaxing with friends or family.
